Property Investing for the Long Term

Published by

There are many investing opportunities out there and there are a lot of things to consider before investing your hard earned money. Below are a few questions to get you started:

  • What do you want to invest in?
  • How much do you want to invest?
  • What returns are you looking for?
  • How long do you want to invest for?

When investing in property, the last point “How long do you want to invest in?” is key.

Investing in property is NOT a get rich quick scheme. It is for investors who are looking to invest for the long term and who want their money to work for them.

There are some property strategies that can make you money relatively quickly i.e. Flipping properties; where you purchase a property, add value to it and then sell the property for a profit. However, even this strategy can take time to go through the stages listed and may not sell straightaway.

On the flip side though, people who invest in property profit in more ways than one:

  • The property can be rented on a short term lease or it can be used as serviced accommodation (renting out by the night); both of these options can provide the investor with a regular income.
  • If the property is used as rented accommodation, the investor can benefit from a passive income as well as annual rent increases.
  • The property is an asset, which increases in value over time.
  • As the property price increases, it can be refinanced at the new value; this enables the investor to release funds from the property and invest in more properties.

So there are many benefits to investing in property and it is possible to get a good return on your investment. However, you should do your homework, you get expert advice, and you should be prepared to be in it for the long haul.
